I speak to young adults about how to navigate the stormy waters of real life without losing the faith in which they were raised.
I speak to young adults about how to navigate the stormy waters of real life without losing the faith in which they were raised. It breaks my heart that up to 75% of young people raised in the church leave the church when they leave home, and only about one-third of them return.
This is because they have a Christian heart but not a Christian mind.

About Lance
Born in Chicago, I grew up in the southern Sahara Desert, the son of medical missionaries in what is now the Republic of Niger. Returning to the USA at age 16, I found myself, a year later, lying in a hospital bed, recovering from an almost fatal illness. A visitor I don't even remember gave me a copy of The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis. This began my lifelong passion to discover and share the intellectual basis for Christianity.
Up to 75% of teens raised in the church leave the church when they leave home. This is because they have a Christian heart, but they do not have a Christian mind. With more than 40 years as a pastor, a police officer, and a high school teacher, and having studied under world-renowned apologists Norman Geisler and William Lane Craig, I bring humor, stories, and incisive arguments to the table to show the Church, under attack for 2000 years, is an anvil that has worn out many hammers. I am an avid reader, a motorcyclist, a world traveler, and yet a lover of solitude.
When you book me as your speaker, however, do not ask me to tell you about the funniest and most embarrassing arrest I made as a police officer.

Inspiring young adults to learn the intellectual foundations of their faith, so they can maintain it in the real world.

The Anvil
Up to 75% of young people raised in the church walk away from their faith after leaving home -- and only about one-third of them return. Why? Because too often, a Christian heart left home, but not a Christian mind. In this powerful keynote presentation for young adults and their parents, we will explore how Christianity stands up to rigorous intellectual scrutiny.
Far from being a blind faith, the Christian worldview is supported by reason, philosophy, and science. For 2000 years, Christianity has withstood relentless challenges -- and like an anvil that has worn out many hammers, it remains firm. Be prepared to think deeply and walk away equipped to stand strong.

Choices
With more than 40 years as a pastor, a police officer, and a high school teacher, I have seen young people make some great decisions -- and some decisions that were quite the opposite.
Furthermore, I am very experienced in making dumb decisions myself. In this keynote presentation filled with colorful stories, we discuss principles of decision making to guide young people as they navigate the stormy waters of real life.
